Canada and US Announce Travel Rules Relaxation

March 28, 2025 - Canada and the United States have reached an agreement to ease travel restrictions between the two countries, a move that is expected to boost tourism and economic ties.

As of April 1, 2025, fully vaccinated travelers from the US will no longer need to provide a negative COVID-19 test result to enter Canada, and Canadians will face similar relaxed requirements when traveling to the US.

The new rules will also eliminate the need for travelers to provide proof of a recent COVID-19 test result for entry into either country. However, travelers will still be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 to enter Canada.

The relaxation of travel rules comes as COVID-19 cases continue to decline in both countries, and as the tourism industry looks to recover from the pandemic. The move is expected to benefit not just travelers, but also businesses along the US-Canada border, which have been impacted by the restrictions.

"This is a major step forward for our two countries," said Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. "We're making it easier for people to travel and connect with each other, while still prioritizing public health and safety."

The US Department of Homeland Security and the Canadian Minister of Health have worked together to develop the new travel rules, which will be in place for at least the next 90 days.

Travelers can expect to see increased security measures at airports and border crossings, including enhanced screening and testing protocols, to ensure the safety of travelers and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The relaxation of travel rules is seen as a positive step for the economies of both countries, which have been impacted by the pandemic. The move is expected to boost tourism, trade, and economic growth, and to strengthen the special relationship between Canada and the US.
