Cryptocurrency Market Volatility Spikes as Whale Activity Surpasses 2025 Peak
Bitcoin Exchange Whale Ratio Hits New 2025 High
A recent analysis of Bitcoin exchange data has revealed that the whale ratio, a metric that measures the concentration of large holders on major cryptocurrency exchanges, has reached a new high in 2025.
The whale ratio, also known as the "exchange whale ratio," is a key indicator of market sentiment and is calculated by dividing the total value of Bitcoin held by the top 100 holders on a given exchange by the total value of Bitcoin held by all users on that exchange. A higher whale ratio typically indicates that a larger proportion of the exchange's users are holding a significant amount of Bitcoin, which can be seen as a sign of increased confidence and optimism in the market.
According to data from the popular cryptocurrency analytics platform, Whale Alert, the whale ratio on major exchanges such as Coinbase, Binance, and Kraken has been steadily increasing over the past few months, reaching a new high of 0.85 in the past week.
"This is a very bullish sign," said Whale Alert's founder and CEO, Kevin Rookey. "When the whale ratio is high, it suggests that the big players are accumulating Bitcoin, which can lead to increased price action and a stronger market."
Rookey noted that the current whale ratio is higher than any seen in 2025, and is approaching levels seen during the 2017 bull run. "This is a clear sign that the market is getting more and more confident in Bitcoin's future," he added.
The increasing whale ratio has been accompanied by a surge in Bitcoin's price, which has risen over 10% in the past week. Many analysts believe that the continued accumulation of Bitcoin by large holders will drive the price even higher in the coming months.
As the market continues to watch the whale ratio closely, many are speculating about what the future may hold for Bitcoin. Will the increasing concentration of large holders drive the price even higher, or will the market experience a correction? Only time will tell.
