Digital Asset Fund Secures $711M to Expand Bitcoin Holdings
Strategy Raises $711M to Buy More Bitcoin in Upsized STRF Perpetual Offering
March 21, 2025 - In a move that underscores the growing appetite for bitcoin among institutional investors, Strategy, a cryptocurrency-focused investment firm, has successfully raised a whopping $711 million to purchase more of the popular digital currency.
The funds were raised through an upsized perpetual offering, a type of financing instrument that allows investors to lend money to Strategy at a fixed interest rate, with the principal amount repaid in bitcoin. The offering was oversubscribed, with investors clamoring to participate in the deal.
The fresh capital will be used by Strategy to increase its exposure to the bitcoin market, which has been experiencing unprecedented volatility in recent months. The firm's decision to raise more funds comes as the price of bitcoin continues to fluctuate, with some market observers predicting a potential correction in the near term.
"We are thrilled to have received such overwhelming support from our investors," said a spokesperson for Strategy. "This additional capital will enable us to further scale our operations and take advantage of opportunities in the bitcoin market as they arise."
The perpetual offering was led by a syndicate of banks and financial institutions, including JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. The deal was advised by a team of lawyers from the law firm, Davis Polk & Wardwell.
Strategy's decision to raise more funds comes as the broader cryptocurrency market continues to experience significant growth. The total value of all cryptocurrencies has surged to over $2 trillion, with bitcoin accounting for the majority of that total.
The firm's perpetual offering is the latest in a string of high-profile financings in the cryptocurrency space. In recent months, a number of other firms have raised significant sums of money to invest in digital currencies, including the likes of Grayscale Investments and MicroStrategy.
