Florida voters face a last-minute onslaught of campaign ads from Crypto PAC-backed candidates
Florida Special Election Sees Crypto-PAC Backed Candidates Make Strong Showings
Florida voters went to the polls this week to cast their ballots in a special election that saw a number of crypto-backed candidates make strong showings.
The special election was held to fill a vacant seat in the Florida House of Representatives, and several candidates who received backing from the crypto industry made it to the general election.
One of the most notable candidates was Republican candidate, Jason Fischer, who received backing from the Blockchain Political Action Committee (PAC). Fischer, a former Marine and small business owner, ran on a platform that included support for blockchain technology and cryptocurrency.
Fischer's opponent, Democrat candidate, Christine Hunschofsky, also received backing from the crypto industry, but from a different PAC. Hunschofsky, a former mayor of Parkland, ran on a platform that included support for cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.
According to preliminary results, Fischer won the election by a narrow margin, receiving 51.4% of the vote. Hunschofsky received 48.6% of the vote.
The election saw a number of other crypto-backed candidates make strong showings, including Democrat candidate, David T. Smith, who received backing from the CryptoPAC. Smith, a former Navy pilot and small business owner, ran on a platform that included support for cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.
The election was seen as a test of the growing influence of the crypto industry in Florida politics. The state has a growing number of cryptocurrency and blockchain companies, and many in the industry are looking to increase their influence in state government.
"We're excited to see the impact that our candidates will have in Tallahassee," said a spokesperson for the Blockchain PAC. "We believe that blockchain technology and cryptocurrency have the potential to create jobs and grow the economy, and we're committed to supporting candidates who share those values."
The election results are still preliminary, and the official results will be released in the coming days. However, the strong showings of crypto-backed candidates in the election are seen as a sign of the growing influence of the crypto industry in Florida politics.
