Former Music Producer Arrested for Stealing and Selling Rapper's Unreleased Tracks
Eminem's Employee Charged for Stealing and Selling Unreleased Music
A former employee of Eminem's record label has been charged with stealing and selling unreleased music by the rapper, according to court documents.
Dwane "Lil' Taz" Tinsley, a former employee of Shady Records, was arrested on March 17 and charged with one count of copyright infringement, one count of theft of trade secrets and one count of conspiracy, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Prosecutors allege that Tinsley stole unreleased Eminem music and sold it to other artists and producers without permission. The stolen tracks were allegedly sold for thousands of dollars.
The charges stem from an investigation that began in 2022, when Eminem's team discovered that someone had been selling his unreleased music online. The investigation reportedly found that Tinsley was responsible for the theft and sale of the music.
Tinsley worked at Shady Records, Eminem's record label, from 2017 to 2022. During that time, he allegedly had access to unreleased Eminem music and used that access to steal and sell the tracks.
If convicted, Tinsley faces up to 10 years in prison for the copyright infringement charge, up to 5 years for the theft of trade secrets charge and up to 5 years for the conspiracy charge.
Eminem's team has not commented on the charges, but the rapper has been known to be fiercely protective of his music and intellectual property. Tinsley's case is set to go to trial in August.
