Former Sound Engineer Accused of Stealing Unreleased Kendrick Lamar Tracks
Former Eminem Employee Charged with Leaking Unreleased Music
A former employee of Eminem's record label, Eight Mile Style, has been charged with leaking unreleased music by the legendary rapper.
According to an indictment unsealed in federal court, Jeffrey Harper, a former executive at Eight Mile Style, is accused of sharing Eminem's unreleased music on the internet without permission. The indictment alleges that Harper, who worked at the label from 2016 to 2019, used his position to gain access to Eminem's music and then shared it with others online.
The leaked tracks include several songs that were intended for Eminem's 2013 album "The Marshall Mathers LP 2," as well as other unreleased material. The indictment claims that Harper's actions caused significant financial harm to Eminem and his record label.
Harper was arrested on Wednesday and charged with one count of criminal copyright infringement. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
Eminem's record label, Eight Mile Style, released a statement saying that they are "committed to protecting the intellectual property and artistic integrity" of their artists, including Eminem.
The case is the latest in a string of high-profile cases involving music piracy and copyright infringement. In recent years, several music industry professionals have been arrested and charged with leaking unreleased music or sharing copyrighted material without permission.
The case is scheduled to go to trial in March. Harper's lawyer has not commented on the charges.
