Crypto markets reel under global trade tensions, industry calls it 'cycle' not 'crisis'

The global cryptocurrency market is reeling under the impact of escalating trade tensions between the United States and China, with prices of major digital currencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum plummeting to their lowest levels in months.

The crypto market, which had been experiencing a steady recovery since the start of the year, took a hit on Monday as the US and China imposed tariffs on each other's goods, sparking concerns of a global trade war. The value of Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation, fell by over 10% to around $6,400, while Ethereum, the second-largest, dropped by over 12% to around $180.

The market turmoil has been attributed to the heightened uncertainty and volatility surrounding the trade tensions, which has led to a flight to safety by investors. "This is not a crisis, it's just a cycle," said Alistair Milne, a blockchain entrepreneur and investor. "We've seen this before, and we'll see it again. The market will eventually correct itself."

Industry experts point out that the crypto market has been experiencing a natural correction after a prolonged rally, and the current downturn is a normal part of the cycle. "The market is going through a normal correction, and it's not unusual to see prices drop by 10-15% in a short period," said Alex Kruger, a crypto analyst and trader.

Despite the market volatility, many investors remain optimistic about the long-term prospects of the crypto market. "The fundamentals of the crypto space are strong, and we're seeing more institutional investors entering the market," said Vinay Mohandas, a crypto fund manager. "I think this is a buying opportunity for those who are willing to take a long-term view."

The market turmoil has also led to increased activity in the over-the-counter (OTC) market, where institutional investors are buying and selling cryptocurrencies in large quantities. "The OTC market is seeing a lot of activity, with institutional investors looking to take advantage of the current market conditions," said a senior trader at a major crypto exchange.

As the global trade tensions continue to unfold, the crypto market is likely to remain volatile in the short term. However, many industry experts believe that the long-term prospects of the market remain strong, and that this is a buying opportunity for those who are willing to take a long-term view.
