Northwest Energy Files Rate Adjustment Proposal
Avista Makes Price Adjustment Request in Washington
SPOKANE, Wash., March 31, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Avista Corporation, a leading energy company, today announced that it has submitted a request to the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (WUTC) to adjust its electric and natural gas prices.
According to the request, Avista is seeking a rate adjustment of approximately $13.4 million for its electric customers and $6.4 million for its natural gas customers. The proposed increases are intended to recover the costs associated with providing reliable and efficient energy services to its customers.
The requested rate adjustment is primarily driven by the increasing costs of fuel, operations and maintenance, and other expenses. Avista's fuel costs have risen significantly in recent years due to the increasing prices of natural gas, coal, and other energy sources.
"We understand that any rate increase can be a concern for our customers, and we are committed to providing the best possible service at a reasonable cost," said Avista's President and CEO, Dennis Vermillion. "We believe that this rate adjustment is necessary to ensure that we can continue to provide reliable and efficient energy services to our customers while also ensuring our financial sustainability."
The WUTC will review Avista's request and hold a public hearing to gather input from customers, stakeholders, and other interested parties. The commission will then make a decision on the proposed rate adjustment.
