Cobb County Caregiver Accused of Stealing $54,000 from Elderly Woman

A Cobb County caregiver is accused of stealing $54,000 from an elderly woman she was supposed to be taking care of.

According to the Cobb County Sheriff's Office, 36-year-old Ashley Marie Johnson was arrested and charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult and financial identity fraud.

Johnson was hired by the victim to care for her in her home, but instead of providing the care and companionship the victim needed, Johnson allegedly stole the woman's money and identity.

Detectives say Johnson took advantage of the victim's vulnerability and used her credit cards and stole her savings to fund her own lavish lifestyle.

The victim's family discovered the theft and contacted the authorities, who launched an investigation and found that Johnson had spent the stolen money on personal expenses, including a new car and designer clothing.

Johnson was arrested at her home in Marietta and taken to the Cobb County Jail, where she is being held without bond.

The Cobb County Sheriff's Office is urging anyone who may have been a victim of Johnson's to come forward and contact them at (770) 794-2500.
