Teamsters Union Members Overwhelmingly Approve New Collective Bargaining Agreement
Costco Fleet Drivers Overwhelmingly Ratify New Contract
Costco Wholesale Corporation's fleet drivers have delivered a resounding vote of approval for their new collective bargaining agreement (CBA), with an overwhelming majority ratifying the deal.
According to a statement from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 70, which represents the drivers, the new CBA was ratified by a vote of 95.5% to 4.5%. The agreement, reached after months of negotiations, covers around 1,400 Costco fleet drivers across the United States and Canada.
The new CBA includes significant improvements in wages, benefits, and working conditions for the drivers. Key provisions include a 15% wage increase over the life of the agreement, as well as enhancements to health insurance and pension plans. The deal also addresses concerns around job security and seniority rights.
"We are thrilled that our members have overwhelmingly approved this new contract, which recognizes their hard work and dedication to serving Costco's customers," said Local 70 Secretary-Treasurer, John Carrillo. "This agreement is a testament to the power of collective bargaining and the importance of fair compensation and benefits for working families."
The ratification of the new CBA marks a major victory for the drivers, who have been working without a contract since their previous agreement expired in 2020. The Teamsters Local 70 represents drivers at Costco's fleet operations in multiple states and provinces, including California, Arizona, Texas, and Ontario.
